Pattern Cutting Instructions
Example Calculation
3/4 Circle Skirt Example
Waist measurement: 75 cm
Desired skirt length: 60 cm
Skirt type: 3/4 Circle
Calculation Steps
1. Waist radius = (4/3 × 75) / (2π) - 2 = 13.9 cm
2. Fabric length = 60 + 13.9 + 2 = 75.9 cm
Result: Draw circles with radii 13.9 cm and 75.9 cm
Skirt Types Guide
Full Circle
Most fabric, maximum flare
360° of fabric
3/4 Circle
Elegant flowing silhouette
270° of fabric
Half Circle

Sewing Tips
Use bias tape or facing for waistband finishing
Consider fabric drape - lighter fabrics work best
Pre-wash fabric to prevent shrinkage
Use walking foot for even hem stitching
Understanding Circle Skirt Mathematics
Circle Skirt Formulas
Full Circle:
R = W/(2π) - seam allowance
3/4 Circle:
R = (4/3 × W)/(2π) - seam allowance
Half Circle:
R = (2 × W)/(2π) - seam allowance
Quarter Circle:
R = (4 × W)/(2π) - seam allowance
Fabric Requirements
- •Fabric Length: Length + Waist Radius + Hem Allowance
- •Fabric Width: Should be at least 2× Fabric Length for full circles
- •Seam Allowance: 2cm (0.8") included in calculations
- •Hem Allowance: 2cm (0.8") additional length
Tip: For full circle skirts, you may need to piece fabric or use fabric wider than standard 45" width.
