Example Calculation
Rod Pocket Curtains Example
Window width: 60 inches (152 cm)
Desired length: 84 inches (213 cm)
Rod circumference: 1 inch (2.5 cm)
Fullness ratio: 2.5x (medium folds)
Number of panels: 2
Calculation Results
Required width: 60" × 2.5 + 2" = 152" total
Width per panel: 152" ÷ 2 = 76" each
Required length: 84" + 8.5" + 0.5" = 93" each
Cut 2 pieces: 93" × 76" each

Understanding Curtain Panel Calculations
Fabric Requirements by Panel Type
Rod Pocket:
Length + 8.5" + (rod circumference ÷ 2)
Grommet/Pleated:
Length + 10" (6" bottom + 4" top)
Tab Top:
Length + 4.5" (for seams and tabs)
Fullness Guidelines
- •2x Width: Minimal gathering, modern look
- •2.5x Width: Standard fullness, balanced appearance
- •3x Width: Full, luxurious draping
Measuring Guidelines
- •Window Width: Measure bracket to bracket, not glass
- •Length: From bottom of rod to desired endpoint
- •Rod Size: Measure circumference, not diameter
- •Multiple Windows: Treat each window separately
Pro Tip: For floor-length curtains, subtract 1/2" from floor measurement to prevent dragging.
