Understanding Date Calculations

How Date Counting Works

Date counting calculates the exact time difference between two dates. The calculation considers years, months, and days, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years automatically.

Include vs Exclude End Date

  • •Include: Both start and end dates are counted
  • •Exclude: Only the start date is counted
  • •Business days exclude weekends (Saturday & Sunday)

Calendar History

Our calculator uses the Gregorian calendar, adopted in 1582. This calendar corrected the Julian calendar's drift by removing 10 days and establishing the leap year rules we use today.

Leap Year Rules

  • • Divisible by 4: Usually a leap year
  • • Divisible by 100: Not a leap year
  • • Divisible by 400: Is a leap year
  • • Example: 2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not
