Understanding Day of the Year
What is Day of the Year?
The day of the year refers to the sequential numbering of days within a calendar year. January 1st is day 1, and December 31st is day 365 (or 366 in leap years).
Manual Calculation Example
Example: March 16, 2024
- • January: 31 days
- • February: 29 days (2024 is leap year)
- • March: 16 days
- • Total: 31 + 29 + 16 = 76
Leap Year Impact
Leap years have 366 days instead of 365, with the extra day added to February. This affects all calculations from March onwards.
