Understanding Weighted Blankets
What is a Weighted Blanket?
A weighted blanket is a therapeutic tool filled with materials like glass beads or plastic pellets to add weight. This extra weight applies gentle, even pressure across your body, similar to a comforting hug.
How Does it Work?
- •Applies deep touch pressure (DTP) therapy
- •Stimulates serotonin and dopamine release
- •Reduces cortisol (stress hormone) levels
- •Promotes natural relaxation response
Weight Calculation Formula
Single Person
Weight = (Body Weight ÷ 10) + 1.5 lbs
Provides approximately 10% of body weight plus buffer
Couple
Weight = Combined Weight × 0.075
Uses 7.5% of combined weight for shared use
Note: For couples, weight difference should be ≤25% for optimal comfort
