Understanding the $40k Cap Proposal
What is the $40k Cap?
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell proposed limiting the second round of stimulus checks to individuals earning $40,000 or less annually. This would significantly reduce the number of eligible recipients compared to the original HEROES Act proposal.
Who Would Be Affected?
- •About 80 million American households would still qualify
- •Many who received the first stimulus would be excluded
- •Focus on lower-income families hit hardest by pandemic
