Understanding the APFT
What is the APFT?
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) was the primary fitness assessment for U.S. Army personnel from 1980 to 2020. It consisted of three events designed to measure muscular strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness.
Test Components
- •Push-ups: 2 minutes maximum repetitions
- •Sit-ups: 2 minutes maximum repetitions
- •2-Mile Run: Complete in shortest time possible
Scoring System
- Maximum Score: 300 points (100 per event)
- Minimum Passing: 60 points per event
- Total Minimum: 180 points overall
- Age/Gender Adjusted: Different standards by group
Legacy Status
Important: The APFT was replaced by the ACFT (Army Combat Fitness Test) in October 2020. This calculator is for legacy reference and historical records.
