Dosing options:
- • Twice daily: 7 mg/kg × 22 kg = 154 mg every 12 hours
- • Once daily: 14 mg/kg × 22 kg = 308 mg every 24 hours
Solution Calculation
Using 125 mg/5 mL suspension:
• Concentration: 125 mg ÷ 5 mL = 25 mg/mL
• Volume for 154 mg: 154 mg ÷ 25 mg/mL = 6.16 mL ≈ 6 mL
• Volume for 308 mg: 308 mg ÷ 25 mg/mL = 12.3 mL

What is Cefdinir?
Cefdinir (brand name Omnicef) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It works by disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effectively killing susceptible bacteria.
Approved Indications
- •Community-acquired pneumonia
- •Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- •Acute maxillary sinusitis
- •Pharyngitis and tonsillitis
- •Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- •Acute bacterial otitis media (pediatric)
Dosing Guidelines
Adult Dosing:
- • Standard: 300 mg every 12 hours OR 600 mg every 24 hours
- • Pneumonia/Skin infections: 300 mg every 12 hours only
- • Kidney impairment (GFR <30): 300 mg once daily
Pediatric Dosing:
- • Standard: 7 mg/kg every 12 hours OR 14 mg/kg every 24 hours
- • Children ≥42.7 kg: Use adult dosing
- • Kidney impairment: 7 mg/kg once daily
- • Maximum: 600 mg daily
Important: Always complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before finishing the medication.
