Understanding IELTS Scoring
How IELTS is Scored
IELTS uses a 9-band scoring system where each band corresponds to a specific level of English proficiency. Your overall score is the average of four component scores, rounded to the nearest half band.
The Four Components
- •Listening: Tests ability to understand spoken English in various contexts
- •Reading: Assesses reading comprehension skills (Academic or General Training)
- •Writing: Evaluates written English skills in formal and informal contexts
- •Speaking: Tests spoken English through face-to-face interview
Score Calculation
Overall Score = (L + R + W + S) ÷ 4
Rounded to nearest 0.5
