Understanding D&D 5e Point Buy

What is Point Buy?

Point buy is one of three official methods for determining ability scores in D&D 5e. Players receive a budget of 27 points to purchase ability scores between 8 and 15, before applying racial bonuses.

The Six Abilities

  • Strength: Natural athleticism and bodily power
  • Dexterity: Physical agility and reflexes
  • Constitution: Health and stamina

Point Buy vs Other Methods
