500m Split Time: 1:34 (1 minute 34 seconds)

Goal: Calculate total time and power output

Calculation Steps

1. Total Time = (Distance × Split Time) ÷ 500

2. Total Time = (2000 × 94 seconds) ÷ 500 = 376 seconds

3. Power = 2.8 ÷ (Split Time ÷ 500)³

4. Power = 2.8 ÷ (94 ÷ 500)³ = 419 watts

Result: 6:16 total time at 419 watts

What is an Ergometer?

An ergometer, derived from Greek words "ergon" (work) and "metron" (measure), is an exercise machine that measures the work performed during exercise. In rowing, the ergometer (or "erg") measures the energy output while simulating the rowing motion.

Power Formula

Power = 2.8 ÷ (Split Time ÷ 500)³

Relationship Formulas

  • Total Time: (Distance × Split Time) ÷ 500
  • Distance: (Total Time × 500) ÷ Split Time
  • Split Time: (Total Time × 500) ÷ Distance

Training Tip: Consistent split times indicate good pacing strategy for longer distances. Elite rowers can maintain sub-1:40/500m splits for 2000m races.
