Calculate Save Percentage & GAA
Regulation time: 60 minutes
Goalkeeper Save Percentage
Saves by goalkeeper only
Total shots on target (excludes misses)
Total Team Save Percentage
Includes saves by all players
All shots on target (excludes misses)
Goals Against Average (GAA)
Standard game length (minutes)
Formula: GAA = (Goals Allowed / Minutes Played) × Regulation Time
Example: Soccer Match
Match Stats
Goalkeeper saves: 8 shots
Goals allowed: 2 shots
Shots off target: 5 shots (not counted)
Total shots on goal: 8 + 2 = 10
Calculation
Save % = Saves ÷ Shots on Goal
Save % = 8 ÷ 10 = 0.80
Result: 80% save percentage

Understanding Save Percentage & Goals Against Average
What is Save Percentage?
Save percentage (SV%) is a key statistic that measures a goalkeeper's ability to stop shots. It's calculated by dividing the number of saves by the total number of shots faced, providing a clear indicator of goaltending performance.
Save Percentage Formula
Save Percentage = Saves ÷ Shots on Goal
Save % = (Saves ÷ Shots) × 100
Important Notes
- •Only count shots that would have gone in without the save
- •Exclude missed shots and shots off target
- •Don't include saves by other players for individual stats
Goals Against Average (GAA)
GAA measures how many goals a goalkeeper allows per regulation game. It's calculated by dividing goals allowed by minutes played, then multiplying by the sport's standard game length.
GAA = (Goals Allowed ÷ Minutes Played) × Regulation Time
Sport Variations
Hockey: Higher save percentages (90%+) due to more shots and smaller goals
Soccer: Lower save percentages (68-75%) due to larger goals and fewer shots
Handball: Very low percentages (~35%) due to high-frequency, close-range shots
