IVIG Infusion Guidelines
Infusion Rates
• Initial rate: 0.5-1.0 mL/kg/hr for first 15-30 minutes
• Standard rate: 1-4 mL/kg/hr if tolerated well
• Maximum rate: Up to 8 mL/kg/hr for subsequent infusions
• High-risk patients: Start slower (0.5 mL/kg/hr)
Monitoring Requirements
• Vital signs: Every 15-30 minutes during infusion
• Kidney function: Monitor creatinine and BUN
• Hemolysis markers: Check LDH, haptoglobin
• Thrombosis risk: Monitor for signs/symptoms

What is IVIG?
Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) is a blood product containing pooled antibodies (immunoglobulins) from thousands of healthy donors. These antibodies help the immune system identify and fight infections, and can modulate immune responses in autoimmune conditions.
How Does IVIG Work?

Weight-Based Dosing
Dosing Weight Selection:
- • Normal BMI (<30): Use ideal weight
- • Underweight: Use actual weight
- • Obese (BMI >=30): Use adjusted weight
- • Adjusted = Ideal + 0.5 x (Actual - Ideal)
