Example Calculations
Example 1: Calculate GST on Net Price
Given: Net price = A$100, GST rate = 10%
GST Amount: A$100 × 10% = A$10
Gross Price: A$100 + A$10 = A$110
Example 2: Calculate Net Price from Gross
Given: Gross price = A$220, GST rate = 10%
Net Price: A$220 ÷ (1 + 10%) = A$220 ÷ 1.1 = A$200
GST Amount: A$220 - A$200 = A$20

Understanding GST/VAT Calculations
What is GST?
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a consumption tax that is essentially the same as Value Added Tax (VAT). It's applied to most goods and services sold domestically, and is collected by businesses on behalf of the government.
How GST Works
- •Added at every stage of the supply chain
- •Businesses can claim credits for GST paid on inputs
- •Final consumer pays the full GST amount
- •Government collects tax at each transaction
Calculation Formulas
Adding GST to Net Price:
Gross = Net × (1 + GST Rate)
Removing GST from Gross Price:
Net = Gross ÷ (1 + GST Rate)
